The power of positivity

I am amazed at how contagious positive emotion/positive energy is. How ones entire mental and physical state can be changed simply by the act of somebody greeting them in a positive manner. A mere kind word or two can make someones day. I see it all the time.

Recently I saw a very big example of it that you may find interesting. In a movie that came out not too long ago called “The Lego Movie,” the theme song to it was “Everything is Awesome.” The song itself was very blah. It was only intended to be a kids movie catchy tune. Certainly nothing that was remembrance worthy. And truthfully after a couple of minutes, its repetition got real annoying. But instead of fizzing out, the song blew up. It became so big that they had a long elaborate performance of it at the 2015 Oscars. “Why?” I kept asking myself. But the answer is simple: “Everything is Awesome” is an extremely positive statement, and people are just eating it right up. Just saying it makes you want to smile.

Come to think of it, I can’t think of a more positive statement. For the longest time I was going on the belief  that the most positive statement was: “Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes” (Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure), but “Everything is Awesome” is one that more people will get behind.

We all have the power of creating and spreading our positive energy, and it should not be underestimated. A kind word can save a person’s life; seriously. People want your positive energy, and they want to give it back to you. Help people if they need help, compliment people if they look down. Smile even if you have no reason to. Smile long enough and that positive energy will infect everyone around you and they will respond positively back to you, and then you will have a reason to smile.

Everything is Awesome

Autumn, October, Halloween Booooyaaa!

foliage-fall-central-park-new-york-city-photo-ccAt last the Autumn season is here and Halloween is upon us. Breathe in the cool crisp Autumn air and smell that Autumn scent. Burning leaves, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice, pumpkin everything. Candy corn, changing leaves, and let us not forget it is also time for zombies, ghouls, vampires and ghosts. At least that is how we celebrate October in my house. Horror movies, and wicked decor. We love it. These are just some of the wonderful simple pleasures that this minimalist enjoys. Enjoying the change of seasons, enjoying tradition with family.

Stay forever young.

ImmatureUnfortunately the human condition dictates that as we get older we will be less likely to try new things. That we will close our minds to new ideas and concepts. People as they get older become very prideful of the years they have put into this lifetime, and the “profound wisdom” they have accumulated. Often they become so prideful that they close off themselves to even listening to what someone younger than them has to say.

Don’t get me wrong. I do believe that they are wise indeed. But the world is changing, and therefore the people in it need to change as well; the old and the young. Anyone who has ever boasted “I’m set in my ways”, “The music was better in my day”, or “I have no interest in new technology” has basically chosen to be obsolete in the modern world.

Instead of giving in to the natural mental aging process, they can do what I do. Fight against it. Try new things, listen to new music, get involved with the latest social/technological developments. Let’s not let our pride in doing things the way we are used to doing them inhibit our growth as people. Instead we should live each day with a passion to learn more.

Too many of these people believe that standing steadfast in their beliefs and established pattern of life makes them strong. Unfortunately they couldn’t be more wrong. Strength truly lies in one’s ability to adapt.
